With the Revenue share scheme reporting (SSR) deadline just a few days away, many advisors will be assisting clients with their annual filings covering 2024 share plan activity.
In order to assist clients, advisors/agents will have to be linked to the client for SSR purposes on Revenue Online Services (ROS). If this is the first year that an advisor is assisting a client with SSR, they should be mindful that the process for being linked on ROS to a client has changed, effective from Monday 25th March.
Previously a client completed an agent link form which the advisor uploaded to ROS in order to create the link.
The new process is initiated on ROS by the advisor and an email is sent to the ROS inbox of the client. The client must open the email and confirm their approval to be linked to the advisor. Challenges may arise if the client/company stakeholder who is managing the SSR filings with an advisor does not have access to their company’s ROS inbox.
Advisors should be aware of this change in process and when linking a client for SSR purposes on ROS ensure that they have identified the individual in the company with access to the company ROS inbox so that this individual can accept the agent link request email. It is important to note that SSR requires its own link –e.g. an advisor may be linked for PAYE or corporate taxes etc. – however, they will require a new link for SSR, if one is not already in place.
The deadline for filing the annual share scheme returns for 2024 due by employers and trustees operating share schemes is Monday, 31st March 2025. Relevant forms and information on the SSR filing obligations are available on Revenue’s share reporting obligations webpage.
